I Saw You…

Hello all.  I’ve deleted some of our older comments so you guys are seeing what’s fresh first.  I’m leaving the “Iron Maiden” one up, though.  Love it!

Happy almost Valentines Day!  We behind-the-counter folks see you guys making eyes at eachother all week. Now  throw subtlety out the window and get your internet flirt on!  Wish you had the nerve to say “Hi” to that complex looking Kantian in the great sweater?  Dying to tell that woman her tattoos are to die for?    Convinced your soulmate is sipping a latte at the next table RIGHT NOW?  Well we at the Unicorn have provided you with an easy forum here at the “I saw You…” page.

You: tall dark and handsome

Me: tall, bespecked, and awkward

You make me smile when you come get coffee.  Especially when you leave a generous tip.

See! it couldn’t be easier!

  8. Aaron, many thanks my friend…

  9. You: About 6′, muscular, athletic, five-o-clock shadow, very sexy for a white guy

Me: Indian, 5′ 5″, long black hair, looking for trouble

Next time we see each other, I’ll be reading “Atlas Shrugged” and hoping you ask for my number

  10. OMG, just to clarify, that’s not me, jdsagjlkasjdglsajglksjgd
I have a serious boyfriend, come on!

  11. P.S. I’m 5’6″ and into white guys. Jeez.

  12. …relax everybody…while the Unicorn undercover taskforce has some idea about the girl looking for trouble, we still have problems idetifying the white guy possessing the allegedly rare (among white guys) quality of being sexy.

  13. Haha, nicely put Machine-ster. Priya, you crack me up 🙂

  14. oh my Lord…she was finally back…Sunday March 15th…

  15. I’m dead here waiting for you to show up

  16. I want to know who she is the next time I see you.

  17. Oh how I would love to take romp in your hair young maiden

  18. …you know when you have in the same time the best and the worst…that’s today for me…so she came back…(that’s the best part)…with another guy (obviously the worst part)…

  19. Why is it that I can walk into the Unicorn at any time of the day and there are hotties up in there? Being a student at Northwestern, I would have to say that this place seems to funnel all these beautiful young creatures for my own perusal. So I guess I can say I saw you. I saw you flirty brunette with your low strung top, I saw you hot blonde with your stilleto heels and tight blue jeans, finally, I saw you redhead with your fuzzy sweater and large bustesses. I saw all of you, and I can not wait to see you again. If only I hadn’t found the Unicorn Cafe until I was a junior hahahaha

  20. Girl with the dead kennedys shirt. Will you be my iron maiden? Ill be there Tuesday around 4pm, and if I see you… ill give you a rose. On the real.

  21. Is this not working now?
    SPRINGTIME!!!!!

  22. so for the last two days (Saturday & Sunday) she was sitting at my table (the wood one) and I wasn’t there…was she waiting for me (to initiate contact)? was she there because I wasn’t there? and the thing that kills me the most is that apparently nobody knows her…her name is Ana though

  23. …made my first post in response to someone, then suddenly felt creepy. was it? thank god for anonimity. besides, i would only have a chance with her if pigs fly.

    whatdyaknow….. swine flu!!!!

  24. Tall, great looking male Barista…
Where can I find you later on?

  25. Why is it creepy to post on a coffee shop message board that you find someone interesting and/or attractive?! It is but a compliment to propel someone through their day. And if they so desire to look for you while sipping coffee at everyones fav coffee spot then so be it. America! You can hit on people and it’s normal!

  26. Angelic blonde in black American Apparel dress: Take off your headphones and look towards the window. I hope you are here for the summer .

  27. Hi rugged scruffy looking guy with funky facial hair. I wish you hung out at the cafe more. I’d sure like to see you around and strike up more conversations with you. sip a latte (or a cappuccino) with you and talk life stuff.
maybe you could teach me spanish.
when you will you be back??

  30. oh Luke. I saw you. or rather. I see you. You’re cute! owowowow! Happy V Day babyface!

  31. Hi. What happened to Sporty Barista?

  32. I saw you. and I didn’t have a chance to say hi this morning. boo. here’s hoping your coffee was delicious.

  33. oh Wacky Pie. if you and I married and I took your name, I would be Beky Pie. woot!

  34. Tall, blue eyes, made you a 20 oz latte with whole milk. Please come again soon.

  35. oh unicorns. I will see you so soon.

  36. I’m mostly bald, and in a few short years, I’ll be eligible for Social Security. One day I brought a colleague half my age to the Unicorn. Upon viewing all the attractive ladies there, she said “Now I know why you like to hang out here: it’s the babes.”

Well, that’s one reason. But what most engages me about people — women or men — is their energy. And the energy often gets richer with age….

    As Shakespeare wrote:

Who is Silvia? what is she,
That all our swains commend her?
    Holy, fair, and wise is she;
The heaven such grace did lend her,
    That she might admirèd be.

Is she kind as she is fair?
    For beauty lives with kindness.
Love doth to her eyes repair,
To help him of his blindness,
    And, being helped, inhabits there.

Then to Silvia let us sing,
    That Silvia is excelling;
    She excels each mortal thing
    Upon the dull earth dwelling:
To her let us garlands bring.
    ~

  37. ‘I Saw You’ has been sadly stagnant of late. What a shame. Hopefully with all these charming love letters on the walls there will be more making of eyes

  38. we kept on making eye contact, i thought you’d ask for my number.

  39. The other day, sitting in The Unicorn, I tried to obscure the fact that I was staring at the face of a young woman seated a few tables away. Her face reminded me of that of a woman two decades older than her — a woman who has intrigued me since I met her — an alluring but shy and illusive creature. This longing to possess the ungraspable is captured so well in a lament by Czeslaw Miloscz, reprinted here in translation:

    “Esse”
I looked at that face, dumbfounded. The lights of Metro stations flew by; I didn’t notice them. What can be done, if our sight lacks absolute power to devour objects ecstatically, in an instant, leaving nothing more than the void of an ideal form — a sign like a hieroglyph simplified from the drawing of an animal or bird?

A slightly snub nose, a high brow with sleekly brushed-back hair, the line of the chin (but why isn’t the power of sight absolute?) and — in a whiteness tinged with pink — two sculpted holes, containing dark, lustrous lava.

To absorb that face but to have it — simultaneously — against the background of all spring boughs, walls, waves, in its weeping, its laughter, moving it back fifteen years, or ahead thirty. To have. It is not even a desire. Like a butterfly, a fish, the stem of a plant, only more mysterious.

And so it befell me that after so many attempts at naming the world, I am able only to repeat, harping on one string, the highest, the unique avowal beyond which no power can attain: I am, she is.

Shout, blow the trumpets, make thousands-strong marches, leap, rend your clothing, repeating only: is!

She got out at Raspail. I was left behind with the immensity of existing things. A sponge, suffering beause it cannot saturate itself; a river, suffering because reflections of clouds and trees are not clouds and trees.”
